August 9, 2004: High in the mountains over the Wyoming Valley, in the town of Fairview, Mountain Top, a Reading Blue Mountain & Northern SD-40 is parked on former Jersey Central property. The RBMN is a new railroad that has combined former Reading, Jersey Central and Lehigh Valley right- of-ways obtained from Conrail. In the old days, this track would have wound its way down the mountain to Ashley and then to Wilkes Barre. Now it connects to the old Lehigh Valley "Mountain Cut-off" track at Oliver Mills on the mountainside and heads straight for Pittston. Dating from the 1960s, the SD-40 is one of the oldest diesels in service today. Go to: NEPA Sites: New York to Scranton
