When the Scranton Brothers came to the Lackawanna Valley to set up their ironworks, the technology for extracting iron from ore had not changed since Nebuchadnezzer stoked his furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Build a huge fire, dump the ore in at the top, molten iron flows out below. These furnaces are now a national park located near the Scranton Lackawanna Terminal and Steamtown. Continue.
